What is an ES35?

IBEX 35, aka ES35 and SPAIN35 – the main financial index of Spain. It covers the 35 largest capitalized companies trading on Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (Bolsa de Madrid), the largest of the four state exchanges. The index shows the average share price of these companies and serves as an indicator of the success of the Spanish economy.

SPAIN35 contains only Spanish companies, for example, ACS Group or Siemens Gamesa.

It’s interesting: The Spanish economy has been highly successful lately, promoting more investments. Currently, over 40% of the IBEX companies' shares are owned by foreigners.

The index is reevaluated every quarter, cleaning out companies that have fallen in value and gaining new ones. However, lately, it has been quite stable.

What affects the ES35?

ES35 is tightly tied to the economy of Spain and the European Union, so it is strongly influenced by the events of this economic zone. If you want to trade ES35, we advise you to closely monitor the news from the EU, Spanish stocks market, and the regional economic indicators of Spain.

Especially strong effect on SPAIN35 have:
  • ECB key interest rate;
  • Retail sales in the European Union;
  • EU GDP.

Unlike the US30 and other similar indices, the ES35 is built in the Australian manner and weighted by capitalization. Therefore, it is much more difficult for them to manipulate and it can be used to analyze the economic situation in Spain or in Europe as a whole.
